Frequently asked questions

Seattle website developer

Got a question about our website design services?

Here are the answers to frequently asked questions we get from clients. Can’t find yours here? Feel free to get in touch with us.

Website Services

Who do you typically work with?

We love working with small to medium-sized businesses, nonprofits, and small e-commerce stores. We’ve had all kinds of clients from therapists to dog trainers to body shops. We also enjoy working with larger organizations and businesses such as universities and law firms. With 13 years under our belt, there probably isn’t a type of business we haven’t worked with.

What services do you provide?

We provide WordPress website design and development services for new websites, websites that need to be redone or refreshed and smaller projects at our hourly rate. We also provide search engine services, a maintenance program & other services. Just ask!

How much will my project cost?

The cost of your project will depend on a few factors. For new websites: the size of your website, whether it’s an e-commerce site, and any special functionality. If you want a new WordPress theme, our charges are mostly the same as if the site was brand new.

If you already have a WordPress website and need some tweaks or new functionality, we may be able to help! In order to determine if we can effectively work with your existing site, we will need access to the back end of the site. We will give you an estimate based on our hourly rate.

Why should I use WordPress?

There are many good reasons why we use WordPress exclusively for our website design and development work. First, it’s more flexible for design purposes than some of the do-it-yourself applications out there like Wix & Squarespace. It’s also an open source platform which means it’s code is open to everybody to use and modify. Need to get found on the web? It’s also excellent for search engine optimization. Read more about why we use WordPress here.

How long will it take to complete my project?

That depends primarily on two things. First, it depends on how many other projects we are working on. We will always be upfront about our timeline and will give you an estimate (usually between 6-8 weeks for new website builds) after you sign the contract and provide your content. Second, it depends on the size and technical nature of your project.

Getting Started

What do I need in place to get started for a new website?

You will need to purchase a domain name and secure web hosting. If you need help or are unsure how to do these things, we can help walk you through it.

Who provides the content?

You will provide the content for your website project (text and images). We recommend that you try Unsplash, a free stock photography site with some excellent images. We also have a stock photography plan that you can utilize for a small fee through Adobe Stock Photography.

Some clients work with professional copywriters and if you are interested in having us write your content at our hourly rate, please let us know.

Can you host my website?

We do not provide web hosting solutions for our clients, in part because we want our clients to enjoy the freedom to choose the best web host solution for their individual situation. Having your own host ensures that you have the freedom and ability to move your site without being tethered to us. We have worked with a number of hosting companies, and can certainly share our thoughts about ones we have had good & bad experiences with.

How do we start the process?

It’s easy! First, we will discuss your needs and your website goals. If you are in the Seattle area, and it is convenient for you, we can meet in person.  Then based on our discussion, we will draw up a proposal for your project. Once the proposal has been finalized, we will send you an invoice for the deposit, the website contract and our website worksheet planner. For more about our process, please visit our web design process page.

After the Build

Will I be able to make changes to my website?

One of the reasons that people chose WordPress is because it’s fairly easy to make basic content changes to their website and blog. We can provide step by step instructions on WordPress basics to help you feel comfortable using and changing your website without always needing to rely on us. We are also happy to perform a more lengthy on-site training session if you desire.

Can you just do it for me?

Some of our clients are too busy or don’t have an interest in making their own content changes. We are here to help! If you’d like for us to do it for you, you can let us know what you need and we can give you an estimate based on our time and hourly rate.

Can you maintain my website for me? What does that involve?

We have a WordPress website maintenance service for $40/mo that includes keeping your plugins and WP core code updated, regular back-ups stored in the cloud and security monitoring. This service does not include content changes or additions.
